This is a series of seminars to be held at 

The New School.  

The series will be organized and hosted by 

Chris Krueger.  

The overall plan is to systematically discuss various aspects of the theory and practice of education and of The New School specifically.  This will be done in the form of a series of twelve seminars over the course of four weeks in the Spring of 2004.

The series will begin with two general discussions, the first on the idea and nature of education and the second on the nature of and reasons for schools.  

These will be followed by a series of discussions focusing on the texts used within The New School and which are used to present the School to parents and the world generally.  These will include specific discussions of the School's website, the Parent's Handbook, an essay called, "The New School's Place in the Free School Tradition," and sections of the School's current LawBook.  These seminars will be summed up in a discussion of the consistency among the School's texts on day eight.

The ninth seminar will discuss the relationships between the general ideas of the first two seminars to the School's texts as discussed in seminars three trough nine.  The tenth seminar will discuss the consistency of the School's texts with the experience of day to day life at the School.

The final two seminars will discuss the goals and aspirations of The New School.  Seminar eleven will discuss the possibilities of expansion and extension of the School.  The twelfth seminar will discuss the elements of the ideal school.

To make it possible for a variety of people to attend at least some of the discussions, the seminars will be held at different times of day.  For details of times and dates for each topic, please see the calendar.

Invitations to participate in these discussions are extended to all members of the School Meeting, to the members of the Theory and Practice Group, and, by special invitation, to certain members of The New School Assembly.

There is no charge for attendance or participation in the discussions.
