When first immersed in The New School, children and
adults who are unfamiliar with this approach to learning
go through an initial phase of adjustment. It takes time
to understand the difference between liberty and
license, to discover one's own direction and trust in
one's ability to pursue it, and to bear the burden of
being responsible for oneself and responsible to the
community which expects so much. Patience and courage
are required. But given a chance to become acclimated to
this learning environment, nearly every child can be a
self-directed learner. Please join us.
